Stone Temple Pilots have made their mark in the world of music as the premiere rock band but they have not released an album since 2020’s Perdida, which was also the second album with Jeff Gutt as the lead singer.
A fan on the Stone Temple Pilots subreddit uploaded an Instagram story of the band which featured a clip from a new song and obviously fans are pretty excited to see more music in store for them. Robert DeLeo appeared to be on lead vocals.
In February 2016, Stone Temple Pilots started an online search for a new singer. They invited anyone who thought they had the right skills to apply and join the band for recording and touring.
On July 26, 2017, the band announced a special 25th-anniversary edition of their album Core, set to be released on September 29, 2017. This edition featured a remastered version of the album, previously unreleased demos and b-sides, and recordings from three live performances in 1993: at Castaic Lake Natural Amphitheater, the Reading Festival, and MTV Unplugged.
By October 2017, Dean DeLeo mentioned that the search for a new vocalist was going well and that they were working on new music. On November 14, 2017, they introduced Jeff Gutt as their new lead singer.
The band released a new song, “Meadow,” on November 15, 2017. They followed this with another single, “Roll Me Under,” on January 31, 2018, and announced the release of their second self-titled album on March 16, 2018. Later that year, they went on a co-headlining tour with Bush and the Cult.
In October 2019, Eric Kretz revealed that they had finished a new album that featured a flute solo. On December 2, the band announced that their eighth studio album, Perdida, would be released on February 7, 2020. The album was described as an acoustic record recorded with vintage instruments.
Stone Temple Pilots continued to tour through the 2020s and are co-headlining a summer U.S. tour with Live.
