For decades, KISS has been known for their over-the-top stage shows, complete with fire, explosions, and intricate light cues. But behind the spectacle, a long-debated question has lingered—was KISS using backing tracks? And now, in a recent interview, Gene Simmons has finally responded to the speculation.

KISS has denied using backing tracks in their live performances. But during the band’s final tour, fans began noticing inconsistencies—especially in Paul Stanley’s vocals. Some pointed out that his voice sounded too perfect in certain songs, while others claimed his microphone wasn’t even near his mouth during some key vocal moments.

Gene opened up about the difference between his solo performances and KISS’s final tours. He made it clear—his solo shows are a completely different experience.

Gene Simmons has revealed his thoughts on solo performances versus KISS shows, in a recent interview with USA Today.

Simmons explained, “With KISS, you have to be well-rehearsed because you have light cues and pyro. Here, there’s no Auto-Tune, no one backstage singing
harmonies. If you’re in front of me in the audience, you bet your sweet bippy I’m gonna pull you up to sing ‘I Was Made for Lovin’ You. And at the end, do I dare bring 20, 30, 50 people onstage to sing ‘Rock and Roll All Nite’ with me? You betcha.”

Also, if you really want to be a part of the show, Simmons is giving fans the opportunity—if they have deep enough pockets. He’s offering a once-in-a-lifetime experience where fans can pay $12,000 to be his personal roadie for a day.
