Alright, let’s talk about Wolfgang Van Halen, the son of legendary guitarist Eddie Van Halen.
Now? He’s out here fronting his own band, playing every instrument in the studio, and even sneaking behind the drum kit.
Which leads us to the big question: What does Uncle Alex think about Wolfgang’s drumming?
Well, we’ve got the answer. But first, let’s rewind this tape a bit.
Let’s be honest—Wolfgang Van Halen didn’t get a regular “start” in music. He didn’t cut his teeth in bar gigs with sticky floors and broken monitors. No, his first gig was… filling in for Michael Anthony. At age 15. In Van Halen. The band. As in, one of the most influential rock groups of all time.
In an interview with MusicRadar, Wolfgang casually mentioned that he never got drum lessons from Alex Van Halen. Not even once.
He replied: “No, not even a little bit. Other than that moment of Dad sitting me down, there was never a moment where either Al or Dad sat down like, ‘I’m gonna teach you how to do this.’ I wouldn’t have had it any other way. I like how I was able to teach myself from looking at guitar tabs on the internet and just trying to replicate every one of my favourite songs.”
And while Alex Van Halen has remained out of the spotlight since Eddie’s passing, we’ve got to assume—from behind those signature sunglasses and smirk—he’s watching the kid with quiet pride.
