Grimes has publicly defended Jojo Siwa after the latter faced criticism for her recent performance. The singer took to TikTok to share a video of Siwa dancing to Grimes’ new track, “Guilty Pleasure.” Although the video’s original post included a dismissive comment comparing it unfavorably to Siwa’s previous hit, “Karma,” Grimes offered a different perspective on X (formerly Twitter).

Grimes praised Siwa’s performance as “innovative,” describing it as a bold and artistic departure from conventional expectations. She likened the performance to an “ogre dance” and emphasized that, in the context of avant-garde art, such experimentation is not only valid but also remarkable. Grimes argued that Siwa’s approach, though unconventional, challenges norms and demonstrates a unique creative vision, akin to how Picasso’s work was initially perceived as experimental and unorthodox.

“Truly, what the f*ck is this magnificent ogre dance. This is actually innovative. Like if she did this at a noise show the other acts would look tame and entirely unprovocative. Like Picasso, she became famous for mastering her craft and now inverts it into smthn ppl believe is. In an artistic failure, it’s simply too early and too experimental.”

In response to a comment suggesting that Jojo Siwa’s issues stem from targeting the wrong audience and that her success would improve with better audience consolidation, Grimes defended Siwa’s artistic choices.

She praised Siwa for her courage in blending pop music with unconventional elements, calling it a bold and visionary move. Grimes expressed admiration for Siwa’s commitment to a confusing and experimental approach, highlighting that it defies expectations of producing something mainstream and easily digestible. She affirmed her support for Siwa’s unique artistic vision, stating that Siwa’s refusal to conform fills her with joy and excitement.

“Her only problem is that she’s advertising in the wrong niche, once she consolidates her target audience, it will be interesting to see her rise.”

“I think it’s brave to walk into pop and do this, and also pair it w music like this. It’s definitely visionary and the fact that she’s doubling down on smthn so confusing fills my soul with joy. Especially because we expected her to make something cute boring and easily digestible. I have to ride for this.”
