Harry claims that “people like me” at the evil Grammy’s. Personally, I don’t. So there’s one person you can not count on Mr/Mrs Styles. I think Styles might have gotten ahead of himself. After all, pride does come before the fall. Sadly, it’ll be a big one for the likes of the rich and famous. The statement made by Styles was controversial to say the least, and it appears now that the necessary time has passed, Styles would like to speak up on what and why.
As per Yahoo, he was accepting the award for Album of the Year when he made a comment about how “this doesn’t happen to people like me very often” — which sparked a huge backlash and debate on white privilege given that white cis (whatever that means) men, like Harry, have historically won the award the most, leading to speculation he was teasing people that he could date men.
It appears that Harry (not Potter, although he looks like him) has addressed the backlash. While accepting the Artist of the Year honor at last night’s BRIT Awards, he said he was “grateful” for the award and that he understood his privilege well.
“I’m really, really grateful for this, and I’m very aware of my privilege up here tonight,” he shared in his speech, before shouting out snubbed artists like Rina Sawayama, Charli XCX, Mabel, Florence + the Machine, and Becky Hill.
