Metallica recently shared an Instagram post about Jason Newsted’s guitar and bass collection, which is now up for sale on Reverb. The band included a link for fans to check out the items, which feature instruments used on famous Metallica tours like …And Justice for All and the Black Album.

“Now’s your chance to own a piece of history as more than 60 pieces from Jason Newsted’s personal guitar and bass collection are up for grabs on Reverb.com. Check it out at metallica.lnk.to/Newsted-Reverb – LINK IN BIO.”

Many fans were unhappy with the post, feeling it didn’t do enough to honor Newsted’s contributions to the band. Some were surprised that the band’s social media team even made the post, questioning why it took so long to recognize Newsted properly. There were also calls for a reunion show or tour with Newsted, reflecting his important role in Metallica’s history.

“Finally acknowledging him?”

Another one said:

“Kinda surprised the social media team is allowed to recognize Jason.”

One other commenter also mentioned the importance of Jason for Metallica:

“Jason deserves more than just a post, he is the spirit of hardcore within Metallica.”

Another fan asked for a reunion show with Newsted:

“You should do a performance, or a tour with Jason on bass again, Jason was part of a remarkable time for the band, it would be fantastic.”

‘In addition to the fan criticism, Newsted is selling several important instruments from his collection. Among the items for sale are a 1992 Alembic Europa Custom 10-string bass used on the Black Album tour and a 1989 Alembic bass featured in a Metallica documentary. Newsted expressed his desire to pass these instruments on to other musicians who can appreciate them, noting that they should not remain in cases indefinitely.

While Metallica’s attempt to spotlight Newsted’s collection acknowledges his past contributions, the fan reaction underscores a broader sentiment that his role in the band’s history deserves more substantial recognition and appreciation.

Alice In Chains and Metallica members were recording recently as well.
