One fan on Reddit recently shared a great experience of coming across Nirvana’s Krist Novoselic ahead of Pearl Jam concert in Seattle. He revealed that outside Climate Pledge Arena before the show. He saw a woman getting out of an SUV that had pulled up to drop her off and a man got out the other door wearing a ridiculous hat, like something a Shriner would wear.
The fan noted that, “I was like oh wow man it takes some serious confidence to rock that hat and then realized that it was freaking Krist Novoselic with, I assume, his wife. Cool little experience there.”
Speaking about Nirvana, the spotlight often lands on Kurt Cobain. However, one can’t overlook Krist Novoselic, the man who laid down the low-end foundation for their legendary sound. He had been the perfect counterbalance to Cobain’s fiery intensity. However, his presence and bass playing cemented his place in the rock history. Nirvana have created legendary albums over the years and it seems Kurt Cobain wanted to go the extra mile for an album.
Krist Novoselic recalls Kurt Cobain wanted to work with Steve Albini
The passing away of punk and production legend Steve Albini sent shockwaves through the music world. On May 8, it was announced that Albini, who was known for recording and producing classic albums, passed away at the age of 61 after a heart attack. and check out
Last year, Krist Novoselic spoke to NME about Kurt Cobain’s decision to have him work on the classic ‘In Utero’. Novoselic recalled working with the producer and how the band landed on the post-‘Nevermind’ sound of the record. He said said: “Kurt was a fan of Albini. I remember being in a tour van in 1989 and Kurt was listening to Pixies. He raised his finger and said, ‘This shall be our snare sound!’ He wanted to do it with Steve for a long time.
“There’s that whole thing where you get famous and you have to transition into it. It was hard for everyone, but Kurt got all the attention, being up front there. I don’t comment on the lyrics as they’re open for interpretation, but you can listen and make up your own mind. ‘Radio Friendly Unit Shifter’ was a smart-ass statement that Kurt made, and really says it all. We signed a record contract and had all these expectations.”
He added: “What came after we made the record was the stuff of legend, but you just get back to the band. It’s a beautiful thing that someone invented this concept of drums, bass, guitar and vocals. This was our version of that.”
