Tim Commerford recently provided a sad update on Rage Against the Machine.

Tim Commerford talks about Rage Against The Machine

During a recent interview with Louder, Commerford opened up on whether Rage Against The Machine is done.

“Dude, I already said my piece on that before. I’m just the bass player,” the musician replied when asked if Rage Against the Machine is done.

Then, the interviewer told Tim that Tom Morello stated that he couldn’t speak for the whole band since he was just one member. The bassist responded, “Look, being in a band, like I said, it’s a very, special thing. And I hear it around me, like, [adopts complaining, whining voice] ‘Why don’t you guys just do it?’”

He continued, “People don’t understand. It’s hard enough to be in a relationship with your significant other. Okay, now, imagine now trying to do that with three or four other creative, independently-minded people. The stars have to align.”

“My career as a musician is not over. As a rock star? Maybe it is, you know, but am I bummed about it? No, man, I’ve been so lucky to be a part of it,” Commerford revealed.

The rocker also added, “That’s what it is at the end of the day, it’s luck. It was luck that I grew up with Zach, and that I got to meet Tom and Brad. And they were all so pivotal on where I am today. And there’s not a day goes by that I’m not just thankful for everything that I have.”

In June, Tom Morello expressed uncertainty about the future of RATM. In a conversation with Spin, it was mentioned that RATM is currently inactive, but Tom, Tim, and Brad Wilk have frequently collaborated.

When asked if they would work together again, Tom responded, “I don’t know. Right now, I know Timmy’s got a great new band, 7D7D, that he’s psyched about. I couldn’t be happier on the road with the Freedom Fighter Orchestra and making this record. There’s nothing in the cards right now.”

In January, Wilk said on Instagram that they wouldn’t tour or perform anymore. The band didn’t confirm this, leaving fans unsure about their future. RATM had internal conflicts before, with Zack de la Rocha leaving in 2000.
