Sammy Hagar has never been one to keep his excitement bottled up, and this time, he’s dropping some serious hints about a new project with his Van Halen tribute band. And the biggest tease of all? He’s reportedly using Eddie Van Halen’s guitar in the studio.
Hagar has been in the studio with Joe Satriani, Michael Anthony, and drummer Kenny Aronoff. And while we know this band has been paying tribute to Van Halen’s music on the road, there’s growing speculation that they’re now working on a new album together.
For those who remember Chickenfoot, Hagar, Anthony, Satriani, and Chad Smith dropped two albums under that name—bringing a raw, bluesy, hard-rock energy that felt like the natural extension of Van Halen’s later years. But with Chad Smith busy with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kenny Aronoff has stepped in as the new drummer.
At this point, Hagar hasn’t confirmed whether this project will be released under the Chickenfoot name. But with Eddie Van Halen’s guitar reportedly being used in the sessions, it’s clear they’re looking to honor the spirit of the late guitar legend in a big way.
Of course, whenever there’s talk of a new Van Halen-related project, fans immediately ask the big question—could Alex Van Halen be involved? And as much as we’d love to see it, the chances seem pretty slim.
Over the years, Hagar has made it clear that Alex has remained private following Eddie’s passing, and there’s been no indication that he wants to return to the spotlight.
Of course, fans have wasted no time speculating about what this could mean. Some are hoping for a full-scale Van Halen reunion, while others just want to hear new music from this incredible lineup.
Sammy also posted a throwback Van Halen interview clip with the caption: “Never underestimate the power of music, never underestimate the power of Van Halen.”
