Last year, The Struts frontman Luke Spiller revealed he had written and recorded a song with the hopes of it being used in the James Bond film “No Time to Die.” Titled “Angel Like You,” the track features late FOO FIGHTERS drummer Taylor Hawkins.
Since the song was not picked for the film, Spiller decided to feature it on his new solo album “Love Will Probably Kill Me Before Cigarettes And Wine.”
In an interview with Lipps Service last month, Spiller revealed that he wanted the music video for the track to pay tribute to Taylor – who passed away in 2022.
Released this past Friday (April 25th), the video features Taylor’s son Shane Hawkins filling in for his dad on drums.
It also features other nods to Taylor, with it being filmed at Foo Fighters’ Studio 606 and including his former Chevy Metal bandmate Wiley Hodgkin playing bass.
“So I had this thought with ‘Angel Like You’ that if I could get the opportunity to get his friends involved in the visual for the song. And, of course, having his son Shane, as well, come in and get on his dad’s kit…” Spiller told Lipps Service host Scott Lipps.
“He has an insanely bright future ahead of him, you know…” Spiller said of Shane. “It’s just incredible to sort of see him play. You know, there’s so much of the raw talent coming through. So to have him in the video was really, really, great and honestly just kind of like a full circle moment. I mean, even for the engineers that work at 606 who helped me cut the drums originally with Taylor, for instance. They were like, ‘This is going to be so magical.’
“Just a really genuine authentic kind of tribute for, you know – I guess in some ways it is almost like a ‘thank you’ to him because whether it was me moving to LA to begin with, in 2019, which he suggested. Or the kind words that he would say about my solo music. It all meant something, and it all helped me to pursue it, so a complete full circle moment.”
