On April 8, 2025, a shocking incident unfolded in Los Angeles involving Jillian Lauren, the wife of longtime Weezer bassist Scott Shriner. Lauren, a 51-year-old author and advocate, was shot by LAPD officers during a chaotic police operation and later booked on suspicion of attempted murder.

The situation began around 3:25 p.m. when California Highway Patrol officers were in pursuit of suspects involved in a hit-and-run on the 134 Freeway. As the suspects fled into the Eagle Rock neighborhood, LAPD officers set up a perimeter and began searching nearby residences.

During the search, officers encountered Lauren in the backyard of her home. She was reportedly holding a 9mm handgun and, after repeated commands to disarm, allegedly pointed the weapon at officers. In response, police opened fire, striking her in the shoulder.

Lauren retreated into her home but later emerged accompanied by a babysitter and surrendered to authorities. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was subsequently taken into custody. Police recovered the firearm at the scene.

Investigators later confirmed that Lauren had no connection to the original hit-and-run incident that prompted the police presence in the area. However, due to the alleged act of pointing a firearm at officers, she now faces serious charges.

Jillian Lauren is best known for her memoir Some Girls: My Life in a Harem, detailing her time in Brunei, and has been an outspoken advocate for victims of abuse. She and Scott Shriner have been married since 2005 and share two adopted children.

Despite the turmoil, Weezer is still scheduled to perform at the upcoming Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival this weekend. The band has not yet issued a public statement regarding the incident.
